Marcus Sawyers is a senior associate in Raben's Culture, Strategy, and Organizational Design practice, where he helps his clients define and develop strategies to meet their short- and long-term goals.

Before joining Raben, Marcus had an extensive career on Capitol Hill. First, he served as a senior confidential advisor to the late Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.). In this role, Marcus collaborated with key stakeholders on various strategic planning initiatives while serving as a key point of contact for government, private sector, and nonprofit engagements. Additionally, he served on the congressman’s campaign team, where he developed and managed a digital outreach strategic plan/budget that successfully widened the campaign’s target audience and reach. Marcus then served as deputy director of scheduling/special assistant to Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.). As a member of her staff, he helped manage internal and external policy operations, including staffing the senator during congressional committee meetings, coordinating Democratic leadership correspondence, and promoting the senator’s legislative priorities across various federal agencies throughout the executive branch.

Marcus earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Pfeiffer University, a master’s in Business Management from Charleston Southern University, and holds certificates in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business and the other in Fundamentals of Global Sports Management from New York University’s Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sports.

In Marcus’s free time, you can catch him giving back to youth in the Washington, Maryland, and Virginia communities through his passion for basketball. Marcus helps coach and lead operations for the Adidas Circuit's national amateur athletic union travel basketball team. His mission is to help youth achieve their goals through basketball while helping guide them through the college process.
