For nearly ten years, Ryan has helped leaders communicate everywhere from the C-Suite to the White House. He is motivated, energetic, and always gets the job done with a huge smile and a good sense of humor.
Before joining The Raben Group, Ryan served in the Obama White House as an Associate Director of Communications for the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, working closely with White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett. In this role, Ryan developed strategic communication plans and secured high-level media placement for key White House initiatives such as criminal justice reform, equal pay, paid family leave, and diversity and inclusion efforts.
Prior to working at the White House, Ryan was a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he managed a portfolio of issues including tax, budget, and the economy. He also served in the Obama administration as the Press Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he was the on-the-record spokesperson for the Department and oversaw roll-outs and media coverage for Department priorities.
Ryan also brings Capitol Hill, political campaign, and private sector communications experience to the team. His experience includes working on President Obama’s 2012 Democratic National Convention and re-election campaign, helping to elect Democrats to Congress at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and working as a Senior Account Executive at Edelman Public Relations. Ryan got his start in political communication as the Press Assistant in the office of then-House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn.
Ryan is one of the rare people in Washington D.C. who was raised in the area – he grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Ryan graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in Mass Communication. In his free time, you can find Ryan dancing around the city or cooking up a storm at his apartment.
