As a Senior Associate in Raben’s Media & Communications Practice, and a passionate advocate for immigrant rights, criminal justice, and racial equity, Shadya uses her communication savvy, media relations skills, and passion for storytelling to help her clients advance social, economic, and racial justice.
Prior to joining Raben, Shadya served as a Senior Account Executive at Spitfire Strategies, a strategic communications firm working with nonprofits and foundations to improve outcomes for people and the planet. At Spitfire, she supported clients with planning, developing and executing communication strategies and campaigns on a broad range of issues, from equal pay and paid sick leave to fair housing and the school-to-prison pipeline. Her clients included the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, Women’s Sports Foundation, and UnidosUS.
Before Spitfire, Shadya interned at Hattaway Communications where she helped project teams draft compelling messaging and conduct qualitative content analyses for clients such as the Democratic National Committee, Planned Parenthood, and the State Department’s Fulbright Program. She also interned with the British Broadcast Corporation, working closely with reporters to produce a series of documentary shorts on key issues impacting teens in America today.
Shadya received her bachelor’s degree from American University with a major in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Marketing. In her free time, she enjoys fishing and kayaking, reading YA novels, watching the latest episode of Insecure, and spending quality time with her two rescue dogs, Gus and Baloo.
