Zach Shaben is a senior associate in Raben’s Government Affairs & Policy Counsel practice area. He brings a strong understanding of federal policy to his work with nonprofit and corporate clients.

Before joining Raben, Zach worked for Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) for four years, where he began as an intern before working his way up to becoming a legislative aide. During his time on Capitol Hill, Zach managed an extensive portfolio centered on key issues, including the environment, energy, natural resources, agriculture, housing, and veterans affairs. He drafted legislation, ran the Bipartisan Congressional Solar Caucus, advised the congressman on policy, drafted memos, and participated in investigations and congressional hearings.

Zach was also a fall associate at Purple Strategies, where he researched members of Congress to understand how lawmakers can be influenced to benefit client businesses and nonprofits. He also tracked advertising campaign performance in shaping public opinion and driving engagement through social media and targeted digital display ads.

Zach was born in Washington, D.C., but was raised in Maryland, Michigan, and Connecticut. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, Bloomington. When not in the office, you can find Zach cheering on the Washington Capitals, traversing the D.C. restaurant scene, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
